Ludacris To Headline TFOB Friday

TFOB-Ludacris-SiteFeature

Toronto, ON (February 20, 2018) – Stand Up! The original Dirty South recording artist and actor: Ludacris, is headlining Toronto’s Festival of Beer (TFOB2018), presented by the Beer Store, on Friday, July 27, 2018. TFOB2018 runs from July 26 to 29 at Bandshell Park, in Exhibition Place. His performance is presented by 93.5 The Move.

“Ludacris will bring the southern hospitality to Toronto’s Festival of Beer and fans are sure to love it,” said Les Murray, President of Toronto’s Festival of Beer, “The live music, paired with food and beer, will make Friday night an experience to remember.”

This will be the first time Ludacris headlines Toronto’s Festival of Beer. Last year’s (2017) Friday concert was met with a roaring attendance when the legendary hip-hop duo Method Man & Redman hit the Bandshell Stage and this year is expected to be just as electrifying.

About Ludacris:

Born Christopher Bridges on September 11, 1977, in Champaign, Illinois, Ludacris moved to Atlanta during his high-school years and attended Banneker High School there. He then studied at Georgia State University.

His entry into the rap industry came via radio; he worked as a disc jockey at Atlanta-based urban station Hot 97.5 (which later became Hot 107.9), where he was known as DJ Chris Lova Lova, and this was how he became acquainted with Timbaland. The producer featured Ludacris (then billed as Ludichris) on the song “Fat Rabbit” from his album Tim’s Bio (1998), and with such a high-profile feature to his credit, the groundwork was laid for the rapper.

When the Dirty South movement broke nationwide at the turn of the century, Ludacris rode it to immediate widespread popularity, becoming arguably the most commercially successful Southern rapper of the time.

In 2000 the Atlanta-based rapper signed to Def Jam’s newly established Southern rap subsidiary, Def Jam South, and became the label’s flagship Dirty South artist. Def Jam repackaged his underground album Incognegro (2000) as Back for the First Time (2000) and issued “What’s Your Fantasy?” as its lead single. The song soon became a national hit, beginning a long string of hits that would include Billboard Hot 100 number ones (“Stand Up,” “Money Maker”) and Top Tens (“Move Bitch,” “Splash Waterfalls,” “Pimpin’ All Over the World,” “Runaway Love”), as well as a bunch of Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Top Tens (“Southern Hospitality,” “Area Codes,” “Rollout [My Business],” “Saturday [Oooh Oooh!],” “Get Back,” “Number One Spot”).

Moreover, Ludacris established himself as a versatile actor, notably appearing in such mainstream films as 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003), Crash (2005), and Fred Claus (2007), among other films and TV series. Along with associate Chaka Zulu, Ludacris also founded his own boutique label at Def Jam, Disturbing tha Peace (aka DTP), which released albums by such diverse rap/R&B acts as Shawnna, Bobby V., Field Mob, and Playaz Circle.

In 2014, the rapper announced his ninth album and released the EP Burning Bridges as a preview. Ludaversal followed a year later, with Usher, Miguel, and Big K.R.I.T. on the guest list, along with production from David Guetta, Rico Love, and Cashmere Cat. After adding more acting roles to his résumé, Ludacris returned in 2017 with the singles “Vitamin D” with Ty Dolla $ign and “Vices.”

Dwayne Gretzky To Headline TFOB Saturday

DG-BSD-1 _ Anthony Tuccitto

For the first time ever, the renowned music phenomenon known simply as Dwayne Gretzky will be headlining Toronto’s Festival of Beer (TFOB 2018), presented by the Beer Store, on Saturday, July 28, 2018. The annual summer sampling event returns to Bandshell Park, in Exhibition Place on July 26-29, 2018 with a newly added fourth day of festivities for attendees to enjoy. Dwayne Gretzky’s performance is presented by Q107 and 102.1 The Edge.

The legendary Saturday of Toronto’s Festival of Beer is a day that everyone needs to experience,” said Les Murray, President of Toronto’s Festival of Beer, “Dwayne Gretzky will bring the hit songs and the energy and we’ll bring a massive selection of brews and tasty culinary treats for fans to enjoy.

Dwayne Gretzky is a collection of Toronto musicians that delve into nostalgia, uniting fans of all ages to sing along to the greatest hits of the last 50 years and by performing with energy and fidelity. Their performance at TFOB2018 will be exactly that, as they plan to take their electrifying show to attendees; all in celebration of #BeerLove.

Tickets for TFOB2018 sell out in advance every year – so consumers are encouraged to buy early. All Early-Bird tickets have already sold out, however fans still have a chance at purchasing tickets at the remaining tier levels. For more information on what ticket tiers are still remaining, please visit: www.beerfestival.ca. Toronto’s Festival of Beer is a 19+ event.

Dwayne Gretzky is a live music collective celebrating the greatest songs of all time. Transcending both era and genre, this prodigiously talented group of Toronto musicians captivates audiences with a masterfully curated tour of artists from both the classic and modern pop canon – from Bowie to Beyoncé, Springsteen to Spears, The Supremes to The Strokes. With tasteful precision, chameleonic versatility and a flair for the dramatic, Dwayne Gretzky scratches our collective itch to be surprised by the familiar.

In an increasingly saturated and scattered music landscape defined by predictable playlists and individualized consumption, Dwayne’s high-energy nostalgia trips recall the serendipity of flipping through the radio dial, and the joy of coming together en masse to celebrate and sing along to the best songs ever written. Boasting 100+ straight sold-out shows in their hometown of Toronto and with venue capacities growing into the multiple-thousands, Dwayne Gretzky’s momentum is a testament to the band shattering conventions and re-defining what audiences want in a live music experience.

Best Brews To Pair With Your Latest Netflix Series

59ea203910513.image

Now that the dust has settled and the holidays are winding down, it’s back to the grind… and this means buckling down and keeping things low-key. If you didn’t get a chance to get caught up on your favourite Netflix series while you were off because you’re ‘uber’ popular and went to so many parties, you should have no problem doing so now. That’s why our staff has put together their recommendations for the best series on Netflix for you to watch.

To add a Toronto’s Festival of Beer twist, we’ve thrown in the brews our team thinks you should sample while watching them. Cheers to the new year from our TFOB family to yours!

Black Mirror

Black Mirror is sharp, suspenseful and even sometimes satirical drama that focuses on techno-paranoia. It’s has been referred to as the present day version of The Twilight Zone that is peppered with modern day influences and even sometimes futuristic theories. Once you start watching this show, you will be on the edge of your seat because every episode fully immerses you in the story and you can’t help but get drawn in. You will start asking yourself questions like “what if this happened in real life?” – it’s a brilliant show that has all the bells and whistles for a solid binge worthy series.

Davide’s Pick: Wellington Brewery – County Brown Ale

Since most of the episodes in this show take place in Britain, why not pair it with Wellington Brewery’s County Brown Ale. Inspired by traditional English brown ales, this delicious ale is a rich mahogany brown in colour with deep red accents. With roasted malt, nut, and toffee notes this enticing malt-forward ale is balanced with a mild hop finish. It’s also an award-winning brown ale that is a testament to the fact that the classics never go out of style.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a hilarious comedy about a police precinct in Brooklyn. The show mainly follows Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) but also includes an incredible supporting cast portrayed by the likes of Stephanie Beatriz, Terry Cruz, Jo Lo Truglio, Andre Braugher and many more.

Each character is a misfit in their own way but you quickly fall in love with each of them and their quirky shenanigans. The cast also has an incredible chemistry which makes this show one you should watch.

Stacey’s Brew Pick: Brickworks Ciderhouse – BATCH: 1904

Why: This refreshing cider is the perfect pairing for a comedy like Brooklyn Nine Nine. Ciders remind us all of the summer time and good fun so why not bring that familiar feeling to life while you have some fun watching these goofy characters shake up their precinct.

Dark

Dark is one of the newest dramas to fall under the Netflix original series catalogue. The show follows a similar setting to Stranger Things, but what’s cool about this show is that the story is written in an even darker way. The show takes place in a small town in Germany where a number of disappearances shock the town and strange things begin to happen that no one can explain.

Davide’s Brew Pick: The Napanee Beer Co. – Blacklist Black German Lager

Why: This beer is great because it encompasses a few different aspects that relate to this show. First and most obviously, is that it’s a German Lager and the show takes place in Germany. Second, it hails from the small town of Napanee Ontario which relates to the small town setting in the show. German Lagers are also slightly heavier which pairs perfectly with the dark ambiance that this show has from start to finish.

Mind Hunter

If you haven’t watched Mind Hunter yet and you’re into intense crime dramas like us, you need to get on this right away. The show takes place in the 1070s and follows a young FBI agent who becomes fascinated in learning how some of the most notorious criminals think. As you follow his character along, the show helps you understand the psychology of why these people commit such heinous crimes. The show is produced by David Fincher, who also directed legendary films like Seven and Fight Club, so you know you’re in for a story-line that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Jon’s Brew Pick: Labatt 50

Why: Labatt 50 is a staple beer from the 70s era which makes this a no-brainer to pair with this incredible show. Make sure you buy it in a stubby bottle though which will take you back to that time and give you the true feel of what a FBI agent would have been drinking as they delve in to the crimes that shook the time.

Master of None

Master of None is a very funny Netflix comedy that is written by actor and comedian Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang. The show is loosely based on Ansari’s real-life experiences.

Ansari plays the role of Dev, a New York-based actor who is struggling to identify what he really wants, both personally and professionally. The series also reveals glimpses of Dev’s younger years, and explores current aspects of his life, including modern etiquette through texting and social media, and being young and single in the big city.

Les’s Brew Pick: Guinness

Why: One of the many benefits of drinking Guinness is that it has been show to be good for your virility (Source). Since the show has a strong focus on Dev’s dating life, this might actually be the perfect beer for you to delve in to when understanding Dev’s character.
