The Ontario Beer Delivery Index (OBDI)

Who would have predicted at the start of 2020, we would be living in such unprecedented times these last few weeks. There are many amongst us that are struggling with anxiety and angst over the loss of steady employment, the slowing of our economy, or simply how to make ends meet during this time.  There are also many heroes amongst us including doctors, nurses and first responders that are on the front lines, helping us and our communities.

We’ve had to embrace the concept of social distancing, self-isolation and learn to adopt a new, simpler routine to protect ourselves and our communities. These changes have also allowed many of us to spend more time with our loved ones, re-evaluate or re-align our future goals, learn a new recipe, or simply stay home and stay safe.

We can all agree that in this moment, it is crucial to find small ways to support our local communities and businesses. This includes the small family run restaurants providing take home food service to keep things going, or local breweries who rely on your visits to the bottle shop, before all this began.

If this is important to you and you want to support Ontario brewers during this time, a great resource is the Ontario Beer Delivery Index, created by Cass Enright at BarTowel.com. This list shows you all the brewers of Ontario who have adopted home delivery, along with shipping details. It is a great resource if you need to stock up on brews during this time and also support your local brewery.

Six Brews for St Patrick’s Day

The celebrations start on March 17th!

St. Patrick’s Day is quickly approaching on March 17 and that means one thing – BEER! Now, there’s nothing wrong with an Irish classic like Guinness. It’s certainly a staple on the list of St. Patrick’s Day greats but why not expand your horizons and try something new?

If that sounds like something you might be in to then today is your lucky day because we’ve made a list of some of our favourite Irish-style brews just for you.

There are still a few days left until St. Patrick’s Day, but this list should get you excited for the celebration to come. And as you count down the days until then, be sure to grab your tickets to Toronto’s Festival of Beer presented by The Beer Store on July 24 to 26 at Bandshell Park and see Nas, Sam Roberts Band, TLC and more!

Now let’s get to the beer! Here is your list of six brews that will take your St. Patrick’s Day celebrations to the next level:

Inn O’Slainte Irish Red Ale from The Innocente Brewing Co.

Innocente Brewing Company

A play on the word, “Slainte”, which is an Irish Gaelic toast for good health, Inn O’Slainte is an Irish Red Ale that is deep amber in colour, with aromas of coffee, toasted nuts, orange zest and spice. Strong Patrick from Beau’s All-Natural Brewing Company Where to Buy

Strong Patrick from Beau’s All Natural Brewing Co.

Beaus All Natural Brewing Company

Strong Patrick is Beau’s version of an Irish-style red ale. Rich and malty, this strong ale gains complexity through partial ageing in Irish whiskey casks. Since it was first brewed in 2012 for St. Patrick’s celebrations at Beau’s Brewery, it has now become a seasonal favourite every St. Patrick’s Day.

Traditional Irish Red from Brock Street brewing Co.

Brock Street Brewing Co.

Darker then most amber beers on the market, the Brock Street Irish Red is a traditional Irish Red and is gold medal winning brew at the 2016 OBA’s for the best Dark Ale. Ruby red in colour, full of malt and caramel flavours, and exactly what you would expect from a quality imported Irish Red Ale

Heritage Gold Pilsner from Hespeler Brewing Co.

Hespeler Brewing Co.

If you’re looking for something a little on the lighter side, Hespeler’s Pilsner showcases hops grown exclusively in Ontario. Naturally clear with an ultra-light body; a perfect showcase for the subtle flavor and aroma of Ontario’s Heritage hops.

Small Batch Irish Red from Moosehead

Moosehead Brewery

This small-batch red ale from Moosehead Breweries is a light amber colour and has aromas of malt, cocoa, caramel and grains. The perfect addition to your St. Patricks’ day bash!

Death By Coconut Irish Porter from Oskar Blues Brewery

Oskar Blues Brewery

Death By Coconut is an Irish Porter – similar to Guinness but with a unique twist. Bittersweet chocolate flavour comes together with raw coconut and a malt bill based around Simpson’s Extra Dark Crystal. Described as a rich, dessert-y flavour with a light, approachable mouthfeel.

There you have it – six tasty brews that will take your St. Patricks Day celebrations to the next level. Don’t forget to scoop up your #TOBeerFest tickets below while supplies last. If you have any questions about ticket types, THIS BLOG POST should help you out. That’s beer love baby! See you on July 24 to 26 at Bandshell Park!

  • Selfie Sticks (seriously, are these things still a ‘thing’? lol)
  • Cameras, other than for personal use
  • Mobile phone charger (there is no place to plug it in)
  • Water guns
  • Your own glassware/bottles.

Q: What will the security be like at the festival? How long will it take to enter?

Our front gate and security staff are industry professionals who will help get everyone in to the event in an efficient and safe manner. Please anticipate a short wait before entering the event so that our staff can be thorough in searching our attendees. It’s for your own safety so let’s work together on this and it will help everything move a lot quicker. Below is our formal notice regarding our safety protocol when entering the event…

In order to provide our patrons with a safe environment, the following security measures may be in effect:

1) As a condition of entry and for the purpose of public safety, everyone will be subject to reasonable search of their person including the use of hand-held metal detectors and/or pat downs.

2) Searches may cause brief delays in entering, so we encourage everyone to arrive early. Those patrons who do not carry any items into TFOB will enter more rapidly than those who bring items in with them. Guests are encouraged to leave belongings in their vehicles or at home whenever possible.

3) Law enforcement personnel will be present at entrances along with our staff to ensure guest safety. We thank our guests for their patience and cooperation in making your experience at TFOB safe and enjoyable.

4) Please report any suspicious activity in or around TFOB – See Something, Say Something
Safety is everyone’s responsibility – if you see suspicious activity please report it to any member of our Event staff or uniformed Police personnel.

Q: Where Is The Actual Entrance To Toronto’s Festival of Beer 2020?

The front entrance is located at the Better Living Centre. All Gates (A, B, C) will go through the front entrance of the BLC. (Say BLC in your best Snoop Dogg impersonation and you’re a legend). The only entrance that is outside of the BLC is the Club TFOB Entrance which is right next to the BLC on the west side.

Q: – Should I Bring Cash?

Yep. We appreciate plastic just as much as the next person, but cash is king at the Festival. We have teams walking around (pictured) that will be selling tokens and they’ll only accept cash. We’re not saying empty your bank account, but be prepared if you want to move around quickly.  ATMs will be on site. Token Booths do accept Credit Card Payments, but we always reco cash for getting ‘er done quickly.

Q: How Do I Get Tokens?

Tokens are the onsite currency. 1 token = $1. Most samples onsite are 1 token for a 4oz pour. Some brewers charge more: imports and premium brands. They are dedicated booths that sell tokens, along with mobile token teams. They will be easy to spot.

Q: Can I Bring A Backpack?

The quick answer is no… Bags are restricted to small purses, totes and drawstring bags only. Bag size may not exceed 14” x 11” x 5” (35cm x 28cm x 12cm), or 30 linear inches (75cm) in total, and must have no more than one singular pocket or opening. We’ll be using metal detector wands and searching all small bags, totes, and drawstring bags at the gate – it’s not that we don’t trust you, it’s just how it goes! You’ve all been to events before and witnessed someone giving security a hard time over searching their belongings. The reason we do it is not because you’re a criminal, but because we want everyone to be safe and have a great time.

Q: Will I be photographed at the event?

Our photography / video team might see you and say… “WOW! That person looks like they are having the best time, I need to capture this moment!” If that happens you should know that by entering the event premises, you consent to photography, audio recording, video recording and its/their release, publication, exhibition, or reproduction to be used for news, web casts, promotional purposes, telecasts, advertising, inclusion on websites, social media, or any other purpose by Beerlicious Inc.

Q: What If I Want To Drive?

Don’t drive! It’s a Beer Festival and chances are you’ll be enjoying some beverages. Please enjoy the convenience of the TTC or a cab or an Ubes. Yeah, we said Ubes. Just no drinking and driving whatsoever.  If you are the DD, here’s some parking info: we do not have designated parking for the festival. We recommend finding Pay Parking in Liberty Village or just avoiding driving altogether, if that’s an option for you.

Q: What Was There To Eat at TFOB 2019?

In a word… LOTS. The food purveyors coming to the festival this year will be second to none. We will post the final list by June, 2020 so keep checking back and you’ll find all the details! Explore them all and be sure to take lots of eating breaks. This is all part of #TasteTFOB – our commitment to providing an incredible food experience. We will definitely raise the bar again in 2020! Stay tuned!

Q: Will There Be Water For Me To Drink?

You need to stay hydrated. That’s why we offer FREE WATER through our quench buggy on site. Just take your commemorative mug (which you get when you arrive), rinse it out and fill it up at a water station. Do not bring your water bottle from home, they will be taken away.

Q: What Happens If It Rains? Or If It’s Too Hot?

Whatever the weather, we will still be pouring. Rain or shine, the show goes on! Remember to dress for the weather and wear sunblock. Even if it is grey and cloudy, wear sunblock. This is vital. Sunblock and water are soooooooo key!! Your raincoat and rubber boots may make your experience if it calls for rain.

Q: Do You Really have 400+ Brews To Discover?

Our festival hosts 100 brewers from all over the world every year and most brewers bring multiple brands. Try something new, something crazy or maybe something you can’t pronounce. Let us open your eyes to a whole new world of beer. *Starts singing A Whole New World from Aladdin*. Seriously, At TFOB we have every type of brewer imaginable. From big to small, and, from local to international.
