10 – What Do You Need to Bring?

Valid photo ID – This is a 19+ event (a photocopy of ID does not count)

Your Ticket. (Best to print it out and bring with you, unless you ordered a mobile ticket)

-Sunblock

-Sunglasses

-Hat

-Comfortable Shoes

-Cash

-TTC tokens

-Mobile phone – to take selfies, call a cab or Ubes – Please enjoy responsibly, don’t drink and drive.

-Raincoat (check the weather before you leave home)

9 – What Can’t You Bring With You?

-Pets (We love them, but they can’t come with you)

-Children (We love them too, but they can’t come with you)

-Opened water

-Food

-Chairs

-Coolers

-Large video cameras

-Selfie Sticks (seriously, are these things still a ‘thing’? lol)

-Cameras, other than for personal use

-Water guns

-Your own glassware/bottles.

-Illegal Substances (Weed, ganja, green, doobs, doobies, reefer, trees or any other type of drug)

8 – Think Ca$h

We appreciate plastic just as much as the next person, but cash is king at the Festival. We have teams walking around that will be selling tokens and they’ll only accept cash. We’re not saying empty your bank account, but be prepared if you want to move around quickly.  Select Token Booths do accept Credit Card Payments, but we always reco cash for getting ‘er done quickly.

7 – Tokens

Tokens are the onsite currency. 1 token = $1. Most samples onsite are 1 token for a 4oz pour. Some brewers charge more: imports and premium brands.

6 – Your Backpack Will be Searched

We’ll be using metal detector wands and searching backpacks at the gate – it’s not that we don’t trust you, it’s just how it goes! You’ve all been to events before and witnessed someone giving security a hard time over searching their belongings. The reason we do it is not because you’re a criminal, but because we want everyone to be safe and have a great time.

5 – Don’t Drink & Drive

Don’t drive! It’s a Beer Festival and chances are you’ll be enjoying some beverages. Not only do we not want you to drink and drive, but it’s going to be a challenge maneuvering your way around the city with large events going on.  Please enjoy the convenience of the TTC or a cab or an Ubes. Yeah, we said Ubes.

4 – Great Beer is Great Beer

Check your beer snobbery at the door. Try something new, something crazy or maybe something you can’t pronounce. Let us open your eyes to a whole new world of beer. *Starts singing A Whole New World from Aladdin*. Seriously, there are over 333 beautiful brews to sample, including 28 brews as part of Sample Sweden. No excuses for not trying something new, but don’t forget about your old favourites!

3 – Bring Your Appetite

The Chefs and food purveyors we have this year are second to none. See the entire Club House La Grille Grilling Tent  line-up. Explore the variety of food options and take lots of eating breaks. You’ll get to see local Chefs you already know and love, and meet a couple new ones from Sweden too! See the full schedule HERE.

2 – New Entrance & Parking

We’ve moved the front entrance to the Better Living Centre. All Gates (A, B, C) will go through the front entrance of the BLC. This is just a few steps away from where the entrance has been for the past number of years, so it’s not a dramatic change – just wanted to give everyone the heads up. As for parking… we do not have designated parking for the festival. We recommend finding Pay Parking in Liberty Village or just avoiding driving altogether, if that’s an option for you. For real tho, why are you driving to a beer festival?

1 – Drink Water & Wear Sunblock

Seriously, stay hydrated. We have water stations all over the place, plus each booth has free bottled water. All you have to do is ask for it. And you can also take your commemorative mug (which you get when you arrive), rinse it out and fill it up at a water station. And don’t forget to wear sunblock. This is vital. Sunblock and water are soooooooo key!!

BONUS: #BeerLove

We can’t wait to host you this weekend, let’s make it a great one!  PS: Add #BeerLove to your pics on Instagram and Twitter and they could show up in the photo wall.

The 2016 TFOB T-Shirt Contest

20150725-145706-TOFB2015_0066-

Each year you guys continue to impress us with your creative tees at Toronto’s Festival of Beer presented by The Beer Store. Don’t worry, we see you. And we love it. (Pictured above are last years’ winners ‘Beervana’)

If you and your crew are coming to Toronto’s Festival of Beer from July 22-24 at Bandshell Park, here’s what you need to know about the Official TFOB T-Shirt Contest.

1) Bring Your Crew!

Once you all arrive and are looking fine, come by the TFOB Media Lounge. You’ll find us at the most northern tip of the site. We’re located between the Smirnoff and Fidel Gastro’s set-ups. Also of note: your crew can be 5 people or 50 people. There is no limitation on group size. A bunch of dudes without shirts on does not count. This is literally a contest of tee shirts.

2) We Snap Your Pic

Once at the TFOB Media Lounge, ask for Victoria, and she will snap a quick photo. All entries must be a photo from Victoria. We are totally paying her to be there to take photos of your group so please follow this rule!

3)  The Contest

After your weekend full of incredible food and beer passes by, we’ll post a photo gallery on Facebook (or as my Mom calls it, “The Facebook”). The public will be able to vote on who has the best t-shirts. Keep an eye on our social media so you can share the link and get your friends to vote. Make new friends this weekend, yes because it’s fun, but mostly so you can get them to vote for you. If you win our contest you’ll be the proud owner of 10 tickets to Toronto’s Festival of Beer presented by The Beer Store for next year. HERE is last years TFOB T-Shirt Photo Album on Facebook.

4) The Judging

We’ll pick the winner based on two sets of criteria. %50 based on likes on Facebook and the %50 based on our staff vote.

Here are the full Rules & Regs:

6 Facts About The Beer At TFOB 2016

FB_Share_BeautyBeer

Hold on to your hops cuz this is probably the most important blog post in the history of blog posts. Recently we were proud to announce the brewery line-up at Toronto’s Festival of Beer from July 22-24 at Bandshell Park, Exhibition Place. Breweries from all across Ontario, and, all across the world will be joining us this year. Almost 100 Brewers! Here are 6 Facts about the Beer at TFOB 2016:

1) 333 Beautiful Brews

Yep, you read that right. 333 beautiful, tasty, robust brews will be available at Toronto’s Festival of Beer. This is NOT an invitation to try them all. That’s ridiculous. This IS an open invitation to discover something new or re-discover a brew from you past. It’s all about discovery. Read the official press release HERE.

2) Ontario House

We’ve packed 25 Ontario brewers into the centre of the festival. You cannot miss it. There will be signs, just in case you sort of do miss it. Lol. This will no doubt be a focus for many, as Ontario brewers are CRUSHING IT!!! What a bunch of beauties.

3) New Brews

These are a collection of first timers at our event. Think of the ‘New Brews’ area as the onboarding area to our event. These year the New Brews will be: Bobcaygeon Brewing Company, Falcon Brewing Company, Henderson Brewing Company, Sextant Craft Brewery, Sawn & Ed Brewing Company, and Brock Street Brewing.

4) Ontario Brewing Award Winners

Brock Street Brewing Company were the recipient of the Ontario Brewing Award for Best Newcomer and now you can try them without driving to Whitby. (No disrespect to my homies in Whitby… I am one of you. Born and raised!!!) Seriously, there will be a whole heap of OBA winners at TFOB. Here is the list of OBA2016 winners. Which includes Hoptical Illusion from Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery the OBA2016 Best Of Show award winner.

5) The Beer School Sessions

The Beer School Sessions in partnership with Prud’homme Beer Certification is on site all weekend long to educate the masses. The exact schedule of what you can learn and which brewers you can learn from will be posted soon! All those years of people saying ‘School is cool’ have finally come true.

6) World of Beer Pavilion – Sample Sweden!

Last year we invited 13 Irish Brewers and bunch of Irish Chefs and a couple Irish bands to celebrate all things Ireland. This year we’ve crossed oceans once again to find the perfect hub of beer producers and chefs: Introducing Sample Sweden! presented by Bier Markt, Swedish Canadian Chamber of Commerce, IKEA Canada and Volvo Car Canada.

Yes, there will be very cool bands and really great food, but Beer is the star of the show. It is a beer festival after all. So, won’t you grab some mates and join us in July?

Toronto beer enthusiasts will have their first taste of Sample Sweden, available at all Bier Markt locations within the GTA, in advance of Toronto’s Festival of Beer. The restaurant will feature Leon by Omnipollo, a Belgian Pale Ale that is assertively hopped and fermented dry using champagne yeast, on tap from July 11 to July 24.

Bier Markt will also hold a promotion on food as well! The offer includes one ticket to Toronto’s Festival of Beer on the sold out date of Saturday, July 23, with the purchase of both a $15 Swedish dish and a Leon. The bundled offer is $50 + HST and is available while supplies last.

6 Reasons Why Sweden is Our Feature Country at TFOB 2016

SampleSweden-FB-Share

Sweden is a hot bed of brewing. With over 300+ brands (and more popping up everyday) Sweden is really making a case for itself as one of the ‘go-to’ beer countries in Europe. We are proud to showcase this amazing country in conjunction with the Swedish Canadian Chamber of Commerce and funded by Government of Ontario. We are so excited about featuring all things Sweden that we just released this offer: Save $5 off GA tickets with the promo code SWEDE

Here are some reasons why Sweden is so amazing:

Fika

Swedish people take their Fika seriously! Google it! In fact, the country’s Youtube channel even has a Fika video series. Fika is loosely translated ‘to have coffee’. It’s basically a break in the day that people take some down time and enjoy a coffee and treat. We like this idea, but we like it waaaaaay more with beer! A Beer Fika, if you will. Come and have a beer break at TFOB.

Gotland or Gotlands?

The island of Gotland is where half of Stockholm goes during the summer. It’s an island which makes it pretty hard to bring the whole thing here… but Gotlands – the brewers from Gotland who have been brewing since 1995 – can be moved! They will be at #TFOB2016 and they’ll be bringing some tasty brews with them. See who is coming HERE.

Twenty Eight Brands Of Swedish Beer

In addition to Gotlands, we will have 5 other brewers attending our event. We will have – in total – 28 brands of Swedish Beer, inside the Sample Sweden Pavilion. See who HERE.

Swedish Cuisine

Chef Peter J Skogstrom and Chef Roland Persson will be showcasing their talents inside the Sample Sweden Pavilion and the Club House La Grille Grilling Tent.  Learn more about the chefs HERE.

Get a taste at Bier Markt

The bundled offer is $50 + HST and is available until supplies last.

This Bridge

The Öresund bridge connecting Sweden with Denmark ends in a rather dramatic way – from over water to under water. How incredible is that? Can you just image how tasty their beer is if their bridges are this awesome? That’s a bit of a stretch, but this bridge tho!

BridgeSweden

We are proud to partner with some great Swedish companies to bring this to life, including Ikea Canada and Volvo Car Canada LTD.

7 Reasons You Don’t Want To Miss Toronto’s Festival of Beer on Friday July 22

Toronto Festical of Beer and House of Pain

We were sitting around the office talking about our weekends. We covered the usual stuff: what TV shows we binge watched, what beer we sampled, what events we went to… you know, the usual. The radio was on in the background. It was on 93.5 The Move (full disclosure, 93.5 the Move is one of our radio partners). Then, outta nowhere, the House Of Pain classic ‘Jump Around’ came on. The horns at the beginning of that song made our convo change to how awesome the Friday night at TFOB is gonna be. Here is our staff curated list on why Friday July 22 is not to be missed:

1) House Of Pain

Legendary Hip Hop artists House Of Pain are known to be incredible live. This is your chance to see Everlast, Danny Boy and DJ Lethal in concert under the stars at Bandshell stage. We couldn’t think of a better group of artists to open the first day of TFOB. Seriously, this is going to be off the charts. Just get some tickets NOW!

2) Maestro

The Pioneer of Canadian Hip Hop, Maestro Fresh Wes has been added to TFOB Friday. Our backbones will be slipping while we are sipping on one of the 333 beautiful brews. Can’t wait to hear some of Wes’s classics along with celebrating his new stuff. This is gunna be unreal. Use code HOUSE to save $5 off tickets.

3) Sampling Under The Stars

Sipping a tasty bevy at that perfect time when day becomes night is magical. A quick staff poll shows that 4/6 of TFOB staffers love this time of day. (So, that’s pretty much a scientific study). Being at TFOB when it’s both light and dark out is quite an experience. Sunshine and chill to jumping around faster than you can say Shamrocks & Shenanigans.

4) Day 1-ers

The first day energy of TFOB is something else. It will be palpable. Everyone will feel it: brewers, food purveyors, staff, and most of all – you, the people. The electricity that flows from person to person when the gates and taps open for the very first time is unlike any other event. It’s also the start of the weekend so you know good times are top priority for all.

5) The Beer

If you have a favourite beer, it will be here. If you are all about discovering new stuff, then we got your back, fam. Over 333 brands of beer are here. The single biggest piece of feedback we receive after each event wraps is ‘Discovery’, like I discovered this beer or that beer or my new favourite beer. Can’t wait for you to find yours! See the full list!

6) Only 500 Tickets Remain!

At the time of writing this, VIP Tickets and Hoptimized Tickets are SOLD OUT and there are only about 500 general admission tickets left. Get yours NOW!

7) Sample Sweden

A 10,000 square foot pavilion that focuses on all things Sweden: 28 Swedish brews, 2 Award Winning Swedish Chefs and more. Sample Sweden happens all weekend long and is in partnership with The Swedish Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Ikea Canada, Volvo Cars of Canada, and Bier Markt – where you can get a taste of Sample Sweden in GTA location from July 11 to 24.

Here’s a taste of House of Pain live:

See you on July 22 at Bandshell Park, Exhibition Place where we’ll all get up, get up, and get down.

Attica Riots Added To TFOB Sunday

AR-promo-1-(Credit-Lane-Dorsey)

Attica Riots will be opening for UK rockers The Temperance Movement!

A dose of Canadian rock will be coming to TFOB Sunday and we are super stoked to share the news with you: Alt rock trio Attica Riots will join The Temperance Movement, over 333 beautiful brews, over 16 rock star chefs, over 16 killer food purveyors and 10,000 beer enthusiasts at Bandshell Park, Exhibition Place on Sunday, July 24th.  See below for more on Attic Riots or just go and get your TFOB Sunday tickets NOW! (use code BLOG to save $5 off GA Tickets)

About Attica Riots:

The members of Canada’s Attica Riots have what can only be described as a cosmic musical connection. Any musician will tell you that’s not always the case in a band scenario, where democracy can fail when egos, opinions, and dominant personalities do battle, thus sinking a band before it even sets sail. So, when you have that type of “on the same page” connection, you hold on to it. And that’s just what Attica Riots are doing. You can’t argue with the results, which are the fiery and infectious alt rock anthems this trio creates. They are sometimes dark, sometimes subtle, but always acute. Lead vocalist Bobby Desjarlais admits that the band is tackling “the human condition” and looking for that ever-elusive silver lining, saying, “I like to consider it optimistic cynicism, more of a realism than pessimism. We’re positive people, but also not naïve about what’s going on around us.” But 2016 is looking to be the year that Attica Riots who are signed to Five Seven, which is part of Eleven Seven Music Group make an indelible mark outside of Canada with their worldwide debut release, produced by Mark Needham (American Authors, Imagine Dragons, The Killers). Their time is now. The members of Attica Riots are firmly on the same musical page. It’s why the songs that make up their debut release are so fluid and unforgettable.

Get ready Attica Riots are about to take the alternative rock world by storm one song at a time.
