Featuring more than 300 brands, amazing entertainment, and summer fun, TFOB takes place July 28-30, 2017 at Bandshell Park in Exhibition Place. This is a 19+ event.

About Alan Doyle & The Beautiful Gypsies:

Alan Doyle is an actor, producer, newly-minted best-selling author, and best known as lead singer for Newfoundland’s beloved Great Big Sea. He hails from Petty Harbour, NL, and formed Great Big Sea in 1993 with Sean McCann, Bob Hallett, and Darrell Power, in which they fused traditional Newfoundland music with their own pop sensibilities. Their nine albums, double-disc hits retrospective, and two DVD releases have been declared Gold or Platinum and have sold a combined 1.2 million copies in Canada.

Alan Doyle & The Beautiful Gypsies is Doyle’s solo project and is equally adept to drawing a crowd.  They recently released their second album So Let’s Go in January 2015, which continues to cement Doyle’s reputation as one of Canada’s most treasured musicians and storytellers.

About David James:

Award winning country artist David James (MDM Recordings Inc. / Universal Music Canada) lives by the motto “nothing worth having comes easy and opportunity looks a lot like hard work,” and work hard he does.

With his debut performance at Boots and Hearts this past summer, a new EP Songs About A Girl, and two 2016 Canadian Country Music Association® (CCMA®) Award™ nominations in the Rising Star and Recording Package of the Year categories, this Winnipeg native has been busy mapping out his musical trajectory.

Continuing a year of many exciting moments, he also received his first (2016) 19th Annual Canadian Radio Music Award nomination for Best New Group or Solo Artist: Country.

Showing no signs of slowing down, he was recently back in the studio, recording new music.  James will release a new single, “What If I Don’t”, as well as hit the road opening shows for Chad Brownlee in early 2017.

About Eric Ethridge:

Canadian country newcomer Eric Ethridge has gained a serious amount of momentum since he released a series of orchestra country-pop music videos back January 2015; one of which garnered him a mention in rolling stone magazine.

Subsequently his social media presence enjoyed a drastic increase with over 250,000 Youtube hits and an increase to over 1400 YouTube subscribers.

In August of 2015 Ethridge was the runner-up in the Boots and Hearts emerging artist showcase, and has since had continued interest from both American and Canadian record labels, and is now one of the newest additions to the Feldman’s Agency roster.

In early 2016 Ethridge was selected by a panel of industry professionals from across Canada to be one of the top 6 finalist for the CCMA Discovery Program, which then went on to win the CCMA Discovery Award. He has shared the stage with major  acts such as Jess Moskaluke, Brett Kissel, Emerson Drive, Chad Brownlee, The Bros. Osborne, Randy Houser, Chris Young, Billy Currington, Thomas Rhett, Kip Moore, Eric Church and Florida Georgia Line.

Ethridge is currently working with several producers: Jeff Coplan (Love & Theft, Tim Hicks, Black Jack Billy) , Todd Clarke (Phillip Phillips, Autumn Hill, Madeline Merlo), and Brian Howes (Nickelback, Keith Urban, Chris Daughtry, and Hinder) to develop his sound for his debut EP to be released in Early 2017.

About Dani Strong:

Dani Strong is a singer/songwriter with an unparalleled stage presence. Her debut album, Time To Breathe has already hit #1 on the country charts and #2 over all genres at iTunes! The new album is brewing a buzz about Strong, who is blazing her trail as an independent artist in both Canada and south of the border as well.
Not only is Strong an exceptional songwriter, but she is also a captivating performer with incredible depth and charm.  Feeding off of her audience she can win over any room with her brilliant wit and clever humour or simply dominate the stage with an absolutely haunting execution of one of her emotional pieces.

Strong’s story is one of dedication, heart, loss and triumph.  It has not been a short and paved road to where she is now.  Strong has learned, first hand, what it means to “pay your dues” and earn the respect of seasoned musicians, industry representatives and music fans alike. Strong’s story is unique and her talent as a songwriter and performer are exceptional and captivating.

5 Awesome Valentine’s Day Gifts

2016TFOB_785

Valentine’s Day is Feb 14. Whether you’re deeply in love with someone, still searching for someone, or don’t even care, we felt compelled to share our thoughts… Of course, if you don’t care, then maybe this blog entry is not for you.

Here are 5 gifts ideas and 1 Valentine’s Day alternative suggestion:

1) TICKETS: The Perfectly Paired Package is just that: perfectly paired. We paired TFOB Tickets with a pair of socks from GOTSTYLE and a pair of Yves Martin boxer briefs from Prostate Cancer Canada. You’ll also get a $50 GOTSTYLE gift card and GOTSTYLE MAN Magazine. For every Perfectly Paired Package purchased (say that 5 times fast) we’ll donate $10 to Prostate Cancer Canada.

2) DINNER: The Nacho Crunch Double Layer taco from Taco Bell may be enticing you, but keep that urge bottled in… for now. Trip Advisor has THIS LIST of the best Italians restaurants in Toronto. Or maybe BBQ is your thing? HERE is a list of the best BBQ joints courtesy BLOGTO. And HERE is a list from Yelp on Toronto’s best kept secret restaurants/bars.

3) COUPLES MASSAGE: Speaks for itself… Just hit Google with that search. The one who spends most on AdWords around this time should get your business! We’ve heard that ELMWOOD is good, And Bahn Thai too!

4) RAGE ROOM: For $69 you and your loved one can smash a whole lotta stuff. It’s called the Date Night package from Battle Sports… and sounds perfect if you and your partner want to release some energy. This package comes with the luxury of smashing a printer – which you’ve always wanted to do after seeing Office Space. Learn MORE.

5) ALL THE BOOKS: How many times have you said “We should be reading more?” Mark Zuckerburg’s list of 23 books he things everyone should read is a good place to start. Want to really WOW your love, buy them all the books! Or better yet, get a library card and visit one of Toronto’s Public Library. HERE’s Zucks’ list. And HERE is the location/hours list of Toronto Public Libraries.

Alternative Valentine’s Day Idea:

Order a greasy Brooklyn Pizza from Dominos and binge watch Lemony Snickets: A Series of Unfortunate Events on Netflix. This is the Neil Patrick Harris redux of the movie that Jim Carrey absolutely crushed years previously. NPH is glorious. Follow the tragic trio of the Baudelaire children Violet, Klaus and Sunny as they dodge and weave the evil Count Olaf. For a pretty dark storyline, the show is light and fluffy and full of great performances. That theme song will get stuck in your head and you can thank us later. “Look away, Look awaaaay, Look Away!!”

Have a Happy Valentine’s Day. Cheers. Looking forward to seeing everyone on May 20-21 for Toronto’s Festival of Beer Spring Sessions and on July 28-30 for the Summer Edition of TFOB.

Brew News: Valentine’s Day, Beer Art, Superb Owl Beer

TFOB_abbeyroad_Blog_PLAIN

Our weekly look at the latest in beer news take us to Hamilton, Bruges, Houston and right here in Toronto. We googled, we searched, we created and these are the top stories for the week…

We’ve been told that some guys are hard to buy for, so we conjured up the Perfectly Paired Package. It’s like getting a pair of GOTSTYLE socks and a pair of Yves Martin boxer briefs for free when you purchase a pair of TFOB Saturday tickets. LEARN MORE about this package HERE. Please note, we will donate $10 from every package purchased to Prostate Cancer Canada. This is a win/win/win/win. Thanks to the fine folks at GOTSTYLE and Prostate Cancer Canada for making this happen.

So Arty: Let’s face it. Collective Arts Brewing in Hamilton are crushing it. A solid line-up of brews like Rhyme & Reason, Ransack The Universe, Stranger Than Fiction and a killer idea to incorporate art into their look and feel. Canadian and International artists get their art featured on the label.  It’s like a global art gallery in your hand, one beer at a time. We love everything about it. Read more in THIS CBC article.

In Bruges: Beer literally flows through the streets of Bruges. This destination is on on our bucket list. It sounds dreamy, but Belgian beer can be a minefield for the uninitiated, so it’s worth learning how to tell your Tripel from your Kwak before you order a pint of something 14% ABV. Check out this piece from The Independent on how to spend a beer-fueled two days In Bruges.

Superb Owl Beer Pairings: Yes, the Superb Owl is coming up (Feb 6 at 6:30pm). It’s Football’s biggest game with Atlanta facing New England. We always like to look at the other battle; the battle of beer. Which region/city brews better beer?  Boston vs Atlanta.  Methinks it doesn’t seem like too difficult of a choice. The other big part of Superb Owl Sunday are the snacks. HERE’s a handy list of which beer pairs with which snack courtesy of VinePair.

There you have it. Our round up of the latest beer news. Cheers. Looking forward to seeing everyone on May 20-21 for Toronto’s Festival of Beer Spring Sessions and on July 28-30 for the Summer Edition of TFOB.

BeerYogaBeer Yoga Is A Thing! Get yourself in Happy Baby pose because Beer & Yoga is now a thing. According to this Mashable article, it started at the famous Burning Man festival, and then spread to Germany and now Australia. If you feel this doesn’t sound like the absolute best thing, then you should should Nama-stay away. Photo: via Mashable

Sierra_Nevada_XL_410_282_c1Tesla-Powered Beer: There’s yet another reason to love west coast brewers Sierra Nevada. They’ve installed Tesla Powerpack Batteries at their California Brewery to meet the energy demand on electricity. THIS article from Green Tech Media often quotes Sierra Nevada’s Sustainability Manager Cheri Chastain, which makes us think that more breweries need to have someone leading the sustainability charge. Super cool. Photo: via Sierra Nevada website

Keurig for Beer?: There are rumblings about a single serve beer making machine. Is this the world’s greatest idea or just some crazy fad? THIS article is from the Nerdist, and reports that Anheuser-Bush InBev is considering some type of contraption for single serve beer.

Pint of Stella = Clean Water: Matt Damon’s water.org and Stella Artois have teamed up for a pretty unique partnership. The Hollywood Reporter describes it this way…  “Damon discussed a newly announced cooperation between the organization (water.org) and beer brand Stella Artois, part of Anheuser-Busch InBev, saying that it provides people different ways of giving, such as by buying glass chalices. Or ‘you can go into a pub in the U.K. or America and buy a pint of Stella, and for that one pint of Stella, they will guarantee bringing someone in the developing world clean water for a month,’ the star explained. Brew News: Beer For All, Hop Free Beer, Sour Beer

2016tfob_252

Yes friends, Toronto’s Festival of Beer presented by the Beer Store happens THIS year! If you scored some tickets over the Holidays, then please join the Facebook Group. You know, we are always on the look out for cool beer news and neat beer stories… Here are some that recently caught our eye…

sour_beer_gallery_3Why So Sour? You are either a fan of Sour Beer or not. There’s no middle ground. Our office is split down the middle on this issue. Some love it and some…well, not so much. We found this great piece from TVO on a sour collaboration between a number of brewers that happened at Indie Ale House.  The amount of work that goes into making sour beer is unreal: sleeping outside? Aged for four years? This story gives you a taste of the trials that go in to making that sour goodness. Take a read. Photo from Sarah Reid.

screen-shot-2017-01-11-at-12-27-54-pmBeer For All! We are big supporters of beer for everyone. It’s a mystery why some beer companies still just market mostly to dudes. From MichiganRadio.comGinger Johnson, the founder of Women Enjoying Beer, and the author of the book How to Market Beer to Women: Don’t Sell Me A Pink Hammerthe tendency of beer marketing to ignore women is not only insulting. It’s also a bad business strategy. Check out the full radio interview with Ginger. Locally, there’s the Society of Beer Drinking Ladies. They host events called Bevies and believe in the motto that Real Ladies Drink Real Beer.  We couldn’t agree more! Photo from SOBDL Instagram.

Hop Free Beer. Today the flavour-full hop-infused IPAs seem to get all the headlines. We are pretty OK with this notion, because we love IPAs, but there is so much more to the world of beer. Beer without hops may seem strange at first – like apple pie without ice cream – but check out this feature from Jakarta Today on ‘Why Hop Free Beer Is So Delicious!‘ and you may change your mind.

Craft Beer For Your Dog. We thought this was pretty cute… Concrete Beach Brewing in Miami is brewing a batch of beer for canines. Woof Wort, a beer brewed with beef stock and bacon will be available for one day only and supports a local animal shelter. Read more.

There you have it. Our round up of the latest beer news. Cheers. Looking forward to seeing everyone on May 20-21 for Toronto’s Festival of Beer Spring Sessions and on July 28-30 for the Summer Edition of TFOB.
